Remember Caravan of Courage and those other hokey Star Wars spin-of attempts?

Well, Skeleton Crew is like that, but better.

It’s not quite Goonies in space, it’s defo not Stranger Things.

But, Disney looks to have steered the franchise back into more familiar waters, while still failing to bullseye the womp rat.

A strong quartet of kids (and brilliant actors) get unwillingly thrust together on an adventure that sees them leave home for far, far away.

Cue new worlds, characters, space ports and connected lore that links it to he Star wars canon.

But is it any good? Well, in truth I don’t know because Disney is understandably serving them up one episode a week. That said, what we’ve enjoyed so far has been good, minus episode four which is largely pointless.

There’s a heavy pirate theme throughout which feels like it’s more of a push towards: “Hey, remember we did Pirates of the Caribbean!”

However, it adds to the freshness and makes the narrative roll along nicely. Jude Law is at its heart and while he’s not really flexing his acting skills, he’s decent. And makes thing move with his mind.

We’re also wondering how the kids’ home planet of At Attin fits in with the Old Republic and why it;s remained hidden behind the ‘barrier’ for so long.

While it’s not Mando or Andor, it’s certainly better than The Acolyte and Boba.

The family-friendly feel will play to wider 2.4 audience and is easier to digest for younger brains, while still being relatable and enjoyable.

A decent hit for Disney Plus and worth giving it 30 minutes or so of your attention per week.

It does, however, make you feel wanting more and a sense of unfulfillment – or more accurately a wasted opportunity to really tell the story of the time.

Verdict:
Story: 7/10
Characters: 7.5/10
Overall: 7/10
Should you watch it?: Yes.
