You’ll never listen to NSYNC’s Bye Bye Bye in the same way again after this film. Just sit back and enjoy.
More than two hours of in-jokes, fourth wall breaking and f-bomb dropping: that’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
It’s very, very funny. Maximum effort does pay off.
For me, it never hits the heights of the first or second films, but as a third installment it’s an extremely strong chapter in the ‘Pool trilogy.
It’s weakest asset is the story, with a narrative that is a stretch at times. But Reynold’s chief protagonist makes it work alongside an absolutely popping Jackman as Wolverine.
The cameos really make it. And this is a film that demands repeat viewing to pick up on the stuff you missed first time around, especially given how much stuff is thrust your way.
The basis premise is Deadpool is given a chance to be a true hero thanks to the TVA.
Yes, that’s the agency which pops up in the Loki series – and from then on we have a timeline jaunt before being thrust into a place where all the ‘trash’ go.
It gets a bit Mad Max before going full tilt Deadpool again for the finale.
It’s long, but it races along and this really is fully immersive Deadpool fodder. And the Chris Evans bits are so good.
Verdict:
Story: 7.5/10
Characters: 8.5/10
Overall: 8/10
Should you watch it?: Yes.
